I was born with a left clubfoot in 1984. I am now 33 years old. When I was young, I don’t ever remember it bothering me, apart from having to walk on my tip toes! I started to have problems when I was 19 years old.
It began with the ligaments pulling in that foot, intense pain and not very mobile. Ever since then, it has gone from bad to worse! Most days I’m in constant pain. I have very limited movement, can’t circle it round like I can do with my ‘normal’ foot. When I wake up, it takes a while to stand or walk, if I have been sitting for more than 5 mins, my foot just gives in when I stand. I am constantly on pain medication.
Doctors are very much against me having a correction operation due to me having a heart condition. I still work, I have an active cleaning job at a school, and I treat this as my ‘foot exercise’. The condition hasn’t improved for me, but I hope one day I will be pain free.
