My name is Monika, and I was born in 1983 with bilateral club feet. When I was born, the pediatrician said that I will spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Well, my parents found the best Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist in the area, and he worked wonders! I spent most of my infancy in casts, surgery at 9 months and 5 years. I learned to walk and play at the normal times and it definitely did not slow me down one bit!
I had a real hard time going through puberty with growth spurts that were just out of control. My legs, from my knee down, would be just black and blue, and so swollen I couldn’t put shoes on.
I just had a baby in August of 2006, and the pregnancy went very well. I always had in the back of my mind that I might have to be in a wheelchair for the remainder of the pregnancy, but I kept my weight gain in check, and I was at work the day I went into labor! (My baby girl is FREE of club foot!)
Just lately though, I have been having a heck of a time with my feet. They just don’t move like they used to, and they are sore all of the time (I think that the tendons are tightening).
