Me and my talipes

Just wanted to say how good it Is to be able to share what can seem like a lonely experience. I am 42 years old and was born with severe bilateral talipes. Like many had no heels or ankles and feet were round almost round the other way. I have had more operations than I can remember starting from a baby including several fusions, tendon transplants and recently a triple fusion to my left foot and what’s called a hind foot nail implanted.

My mobility is very limited and I use walking sticks all the time. I am currently managing the pain with tramadol and amitriptyline and also joint injections approx every 3 months.

This certainly help takes the edge off a bit but the pain is always there. I’m due to be having another triple fusion next year on my right foot. I really do feel for everyone who has to go through this horrible pain too. It’s such a shame that there still seems to be little understanding on what we have to go through and the pain that it can cause.

I wish you all the best in the hope we can be more pain free in the future.
