Congenital Talipes Equinovarus

Jay Jay’s Clubfoot Story

Hello, my name is Jennifer and we are from Schenectady, N.Y. Our son, Jay-Jay, was born with one clubfoot on his left foot. In all other ways he was a healthy newborn boy 5 pounds 3 ounces, he was small because he was 2 weeks early by c-section.

Jay Jr.’s Daddy, Jason, was also born with a clubfoot. Clubfoot is hereditary but we didn’t even think about this when we were expecting our baby.

Jason’s clubfoot was much more severe than Jay-Jay’s. They had to reconstruct his whole hip, leg, and foot. He had 3 or 4 surgeries. His foot and hip are fine now but he has a limp because one leg is shorter than the other.

Little Jay Jay has had his left foot casted for about 3 1/2 months now he’ll need his heel cord nicked ~ just a little cut in the back of his foot. His foot is straight now and they’re working on pushing it up but it’s very tight..

This is an update about Jay Jr. He is now going to be three years old and he still has his club foot but he is now wearing a brace for a couple hours a day…He still tries to turn it inward so the doctor is going to do surgery on it after he hits three to keep it more straighter…..he already had previous surgeries when he was a year old…..He is now walking real good but he does have poor balance……he didn’t start to walk until he was 18 months old…..He’s not talking as much either so he’s going through speech therapy twice a week…… I would love to hear from those who read this story so please email me and thanks for taking the time to read this!!!
