Welcome to the Clubfoot Club. I so wish that you had joined before your baby had surgery. I’m sorry to tell you but there is a non-surgical approach to clubfoot treatment that has wonderful results. Many here, including my son, had surgery but now the Ponseti Method is commonly used method of treatment. Read this Is your Doctor using the Ponseti Method? for more about this method. The picture at the top of the wrong casting method is my baby Evan.
We have already went through all the serial casting and he had great progress with that, but he had bones that were improperly placed. Both of the main bones were pointing to the outside of the foot instead of one to the little toe and one to the big toe. He is recovering beautifully now. He had pins in the top of his feet and they came out and is now able to kick his surgical cast all over and it hurts when he kicks us. He’s as happy as any other baby but weighs a ton. He is 5 months and weighs 18 lbs 4 oz without the cast. This is an amazing group b/c there aren’t many people that know where we are coming from in our current situations.
Oh I’m so relieved I thought he had posteromedial release surgery instead of the Ponseti method. Although I am surprised that you had to soak off the casts (as we did) That isn’t done with the Ponseti method as they don’t want the baby going without the cast even over night.
